Noboribetsu Onsen

Noboribetsu Onsen is one of the most famous hot spring resorts in Japan, with a natural gush of 10,000 tons per day, 9 types of spring water, and 3,000 liters per minute, and is blessed with such a variety of spring qualities and abundant gush that it is called the “department store of hot springs.

Nearby are the volcanic scenic spot “Jigokudani” and the “Okunoyu” and “Oyunuma” hot spring swamps, where walking trails are maintained and forest bathing can be enjoyed.

The surrounding area is designated as a national “natural monument” as Noboribetsu Primeval Forest, and approximately 60 species of trees and 110 species of plants and trees are preserved in the primeval forest.

Along the Oyunuma River, there is a natural footbath where visitors can enjoy nature to the fullest.

Legend of the Demon of Hell Valley

The crater ruins of the hellish valley have led to festivals associated with demons and Emma the Great, and there are a number of statues of demons in the hot spring resort area.

At the Noboribetsu Higashi Interchange exit of the Hokkaido Expressway, there is an 18-meter-high statue of a giant welcoming demon pointing in the direction of Noboribetsu Onsen,
In the hot spring resort area, a 3.5 meter-tall standing red devil and a 2.2 meter-tall seated blue devil stand on either side of a shrine dedicated to the demons.

Noboribetsu Hell Valley

Located northeast of Noboribetsu Onsen Hot Spring Resort, this is the site of a 450-meter long explosive crater created by the eruption of Mt.
Numerous fumaroles are located on the surface along the valley, and gas and hot spring water are gushing out.

The name "Jigokudani" comes from the bubbling and boiling scenery.
A tourist trail has been established, and visitors can enjoy the bizarre sight in a 10- to 15-minute tour.

A variety of hot springs gush out from here at a rate of 10,000 tons per day, which are supplied to hotels and inns in the hot spring resort area.

Oyunuma Swamp and Footbath

Oyunuma is a hot spring swamp 1 kilometer in circumference and 22 meters deep, created by the eruption of Mt.
The surface temperature of the hot water is approximately 40-50 °C, but at the deepest depths it is approximately 130 °C. In the past, sulfur was extracted from the hot-spring swamp.

At the Oyunuma River Natural Footbath, hot spring water flowing out of Oyunuma Swamp flows into the Oyunuma River, allowing visitors to enjoy a natural footbath.

Oku no Yu

This is a part of the remains of the explosive crater of Mt. Hiyori, and a gray hydrogen sulfide spring of about 80 °C gushes out.
The ingredients themselves are the same as those of Oyunuma, and the sulfur does not accumulate at the bottom but flows out.
