Asahidake is the highest peak in Hokkaido and the main peak of the Daisetsuzan mountain range, rising 2,291 meters above sea level.
A ropeway runs up to 1,600 meters above sea level, and once you get off at the Sugatami station, you will find yourself in a gentle alpine zone with highland plants in full bloom.
Visitors can see plants that can only be found on 3,000-meter mountains in Honshu.
The Sugatami Pond walking trail, which takes about one hour to complete, leads to the trail to the summit of Mt.
Asahidake. Many climbers visit the area in summer. Emergency equipment and clothing similar to that of the Northern Alps in autumn are necessary in case of sudden changes in weather conditions.
In winter, skiing can be enjoyed for the longest period in Japan.
Daisetsuzan is designated as an active volcano, but no significant magma eruptions have occurred in the last 3,000 years.
